The way it works is very simple but the public has been brainwashed in believing that social media will explode your business.
Yes, it's true that Social Media will get you an abundance of exposure but NOT without ALOT of work and time from you!
Firstly, you join social sites such as twitter or facebook or linkedin etc. etc.
The more people who join, the bigger the media site becomes and the better it looks to search engines and the higher the rank to global rankings which encourages search engines such as google and yahoo etc to raise their rankings for them.
A prime example of this is; when facebook first came on the market, it was in competition with icq. But it offered a different platform which people liked better and the word of mouth pushed more and more people to use facebook. Today, it has more than 4million users and presently still growing.
However, that will soon change as facebook changes alot of its policies and restrictions which will force people to find other social sites.
Anyways, in the course of such a huge growth, your advertisement or page or post on a site such as facebook or any other media site, is merely a grain of sand on an entire 5 mile beach.
This is where the Myth comes in.
The only person who sees your post is you and the people within your circle of friends.
So how do you get your post found or seen? How do you get this (So called Exposure) that everyone brags about?
You work your damn butt off,,,,that's how.
So now, We're going to give you the not-so-secret of how to get your business, your products and your services "EXPOSED"
So here it is, you have a twitter acct. You have a facebook acct, You have other social media accts. Now what do you do with them?
First of all, you add ALOT of people to your circle of friends. And the more friends THEY have in their circle, is a bonus to you. Try not to add friends within THEIR circle. Collect friends and groups who are outside the box, kinda like the pyramid effect.
Notice how we mention "Groups" - Do not exclude groups from your list cuz they contain hundreds & thousands of members. 1 add or post into a group can be seen by everyone in that group.
Now remember that you must do this on a large scale,,,,don't limit yourself to only 1 or 2 media sites. Find lots of social media sites and repeat the process.
Now that you are exposed to alot of groups and people, start posting. Insert banners, links, pics, etc. with links back to your site.
The bonus point is, there's lots of software on the net that allows you to create posts and place them on your social media pages--all at once. It saves alot of time with posting on each site seperately. But the time consuming part is the fact that you need to create these accts first and gather these friends and groups first. It's alot of work, and it takes alot of time, but consistency will prevail.
So now that you have created a social awareness, you continue to the next stage.
This is where forums, blogs, pages, etc. comes into effect.
Create accts on all these platforms. Now go in and make comments, additions etc. Once you have full access you will have the allowance to create posts where you can add links back to your website/page. Again- alot of work and time.
